I’m studying social work with the focus on health/ health education in Germany and spent 3 months of my internship at PRM in Port Antonio, Jamaica. At first I expected the work to be a little bit different, but after a week of getting more familiar with the place and the co-workers I really enjoyed working at the shelter. If you are proactive and come up with your own ideas you can really make a difference at the shelter. During the three months we changed a lot and I think one can still see the progress at the shelter. The work was very wide. It ranged from planning group meetings (morning meetings) to personal talks with clients, or just cooking a supper for all of them.
The different culture and way of life and all the interesting experiences and conversations changed me and the way I’m looking at my surrounding.
